from Pastor Todd Malone

It is important to some of our World Outreach Weekend speakers that they remain anonymous. They work in countries that do not support their work. That is why I will not use the names of our WOW speakers below.

I loved the statement from one of our Sunday morning speakers: “It is not enough to have the Word of God in your language on your bookshelf, it must be in your heart.” All weekend I was reminded of the power of God’s Word. It was a theme that came up repeatedly. We heard amazing stories, like the woman converted from Islam after reading one Bible verse. There was an audible gasp in the sanctuary when the speaker shared the woman’s statement: “If I can know Christ from one verse, think what the whole Bible can do.”

I wonder how much I take for granted the power of God’s Word. Do I believe that His Word is equally powerful in my country and in my life? Do I believe that reading God’s Word with a non-Christian in Longview can be used by the Holy Spirit as effectively as He uses it elsewhere?

Prayer Prompts

How to pray for FBC
One Men’s Breakfast speaker noted that the light that shines the farthest shines the brightest at home. From there he observed that we need to look for someone to mentor and pray for someone to mentor us. This is central to the vision of disciplemaking. You don’t need to worry about how little or much you know. Would you pray for someone to help you grow in the Lord? Would you pray that you can help someone else grow in the Lord? Let me know if you need help with this!

How to pray for our Community
Multiple speakers this weekend talked about their cutting edge outreach strategy: they find someone who will read the Bible with them. This is not as crazy as it sounds. It’s a strategy that is being used effectively around the world, including the U.S. Would you pray that the Lord will give you a non-Christian who will read the Bible with you? Let me know when you have someone in mind. I can help you know what to do next.

How to pray for our World
One of Sunday’s speakers encouraged us to pray for a Scripture engagement conference in Nepal. The conference, taking place on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of this week, is designed to help believers understand how to read the Bible. The conference might be finished by the time you get this, but we can continue to pray for these believers. Pray that they will continue to study and be transformed by God’s Word.
