Mid-Week Musings from Lead Pastor Todd Malone

Sunday Morning Reopening

We are taking a huge step forward this coming Sunday. We will relaunch the 9:00am education hour with Life Groups, Youth Ministry, and Kids Ministry. As we have mentioned before, the relaunch will look different from our pre-Covid programs. We will continue to fine tune as we go.

Book Club

FBC’s Online Book Club will read Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s Life Together. The book gives a beautiful picture of what Christian community can look like. Bonhoeffer was a German pastor who was executed for resisting the Nazis. This book is about his experience with a group of students preparing for ministry during the rise of Hitler.

The book club will meet online again on September 14 at 7:00pm. We will discuss the first chapter of Life Together. The meetings usually last until 8:30pm.

Send an email to me at toddm@longviewfbc.com if you would like to join us.

Sermon Reflection

I introduced a very helpful chart last Sunday. It identifies many of the key relationships in our lives. This is a great chart to refer to as you study Scripture. Once you identify a principle from the passage, refer to this chart. Ask how the principle applies in the different relationships. Then pick one or two relationships and get specific about how you will apply the principle that week.

Prayer Prompts

How to pray for FBC

Pray for Sunday’s relaunch of the 9:00 hour. There are many details that must go right just to pull off Sunday morning events. In addition, we want to be sure everyone feels welcome and safe. Pray that God will work out the details. Pray that we communicate the right message to everyone: you are welcome here, and we care about your safety. Pray that none of this distracts us from what is most important: encountering the Lord.

How to pray for our Community

I am praying this week for Longview’s downtown. I am praying that the recent grant money received for the cultural district designation will enhance life downtown. I am praying that the renovation of downtown buildings into apartments will bring more customers to nearby businesses.

How to pray for our World

FBC has friends working in communist parts of Asia. Their work was challenging before the pandemic, but it has become even more so. Please pray for their safety and fruitfulness. [I am intentionally vague for their protection.]
