Mid-Week Musings from Lead Pastor Todd Malone
I am looking forward to our special Communion Service this Sunday. Communion is an important part of our walk with the Lord, but we give it such little time. The service will allow us to slow down and focus on the Lord’s Supper and its significance in our lives. The service will start at 5:00pm and include a time of singing, prayer and sharing, and of course, Communion.
40 Days of Prayer 2020
This Sunday will also launch this year’s 40 Days of Prayer. We will pray through several Psalms that will take us through God’s goodness to us, the chaos of a fallen world, and God’s ability to make something new out of the chaos. We will make the prayer guides available online and through the FBC App. You may download the app HERE
God’s sovereignty cannot be separated from His mercy. I struggle sometimes with how life is going, wondering why God didn’t make things different for me. If God’s sovereignty and mercy were disconnected, there might be good reason for me to question God’s plan for my life. But I am never outside of or beyond God’s mercy. That makes God completely trustworthy with my life.
I also want to remind you to talk to someone about God and talk to God about someone. It might have to be by text or email or phone. Let someone who doesn’t know the Lord know that you are praying for him or her. Share with someone how you have seen God work recently. Share why you have hope in the middle of this craziness.
How to pray for FBC
We had a great turnout on Sunday in Kids’ Ministry. We will continue to have a program available on Sunday mornings for 1st through 6th graders, which will meet in the Loft to allow social distancing. Pray for safety for our and children. Pray for the children to learn about the Lord despite very unusual circumstances.
How to pray for our Community
The number of Covid cases in Gregg County continues to rise, which puts people at risk and creates stress on area businesses. Spend time praying for the physical and economic health of our community. Most importantly, pray for this Covid season to be a catalyst to people seeking the Lord.
How to pray for our World
I am going to pray for some specific FBC missionaries this week (as well as some non-FBC missionaries I support). I am going to pray that they have the opportunity to talk to someone about God. I encourage you to identify a missionary you can pray for. Pray that they will have a good conversation with a non-Christian that will lead into talking about the Lord.
