Mid-Week Musings from Lead Pastor Todd Malone

Important Covid Update

A small number of people who attended Ben Rempel’s funeral on July 7 have tested positive for Covid-19. Hopefully, this was contained to a small number of people, but please get tested if you begin showing symptoms.

Please let the church know if you test positive. We will keep it confidential. The information helps us make decisions about how best to protect people in the church.

As always, let us know if you need help of any kind (it doesn’t even have to be Covid-related). If there are things that you need help with or can’t get done, let the church help. We want to support you.

Sermon Reflection

The Gospel of Self is a powerful voice in our lives. It tells us that the Good News is that we can be good enough to earn God’s love and acceptance if we work hard enough. We never preach the Gospel of Self that directly, but it lies beneath much of our thinking. It echoes in the voice that says that God condemns us. It lurks behind our prideful, “I can’t believe they did that.” The Gospel of Self bounces us between anxiety and arrogance.

The Gospel of Jesus takes seriously the depth of our sin. It acknowledges up front that our sin runs so deep, there is no basis for pride. But since the solution – Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection – is outside of us, we are not left to despair. The Gospel of Jesus allows you to admit your brokenness and embrace the free gift of God’s grace.

Prayer Prompts

How to pray for FBC

Our Youth Ministry is in transition as Jordan Johnson takes over the leadership of Student Ministries. Mica Sterling will lead our Junior High Ministry under Jordan’s direction. Please pray for the transition to go well.

How to pray for our Community and our World

I need to pray more for our schools, including the homeschooling co-ops that bring together homeschooled children. Although I have my opinion, I respect that the decisions about how to have school in the Fall are complex, probably much more complex than I understand. It is not easy to be the person who makes decisions that affect the well-being of many families. It’s compounded when you know you will be a target no matter what you decide.

Pray for wisdom for the leaders in our community, state, and nation who are making these difficult decisions. Pray for unity, no matter what is decided.
