Mid-Week Musings from Lead Pastor Todd Malone
I am sorry that I missed Adam’s sermon last Sunday, but I heard it was excellent. While Adam preached at FBC (once you factor in a 13 hour time difference), I preached at a rural church in the Philippines. My passage was Matthew 16:24-26, where Jesus says that if anyone would come after Him, he must deny himself, take up the cross and follow Him.” Those are hard words. I would rather follow Jesus without denying myself, without killing off my favorite sins, and without becoming more like Jesus each day. Yet this is what it means to be His disciple. I am praying that the Holy Spirit will daily strengthen my desire to come after Jesus, so I will more and more deny myself, take up my cross, and follow Jesus.
How to pray for FBC
I appreciated the challenge of one of the pastors on the Philippines trip. He reminded us that some plant the seed, some water, but it is God who gives the growth [1 Cor. 3]. This leads me to a way to pray for FBC. Pray that we will faithfully plant seeds of the gospel. Pray that we will faithfully nurture those seeds by faithful follow up. Pray that good causes those seeds to grow into followers of Jesus.
How to pray for our Community
Unity among churches is a challenge everywhere: the Philippines and Longview, TX. Too many pastors and churches think they are in competition. It’s as if we are all grocery stores competing for customers. Pray for unity among the pastors and churches in East Texas, that we might see ourselves as all joining in God’s ministry.
How to pray for our World
I spent a wonderful week with several pastors who labor faithfully with little resources. We take for granted the level of training we receive even in our Sunday Schools. Our most basic curriculum is beyond what their churches can afford. The back of many of our Bibles has more study resources than most pastors have in their entire libraries. Let’s pray that God will provide training and tools for the rural pastors all over the world who work so hard with so little.

Come celebrate with us what’s happening in the church after our worship service! The deacons are hosting and providing a delicious sit-down spaghetti lunch. We would love for you to bring a dessert. You can drop your dessert off in the kitchen as you go to Life Group or the worship service.
We will pray together during the last 15 minutes of our Sunday Worship Service.
After the service, please pick up your children, as there will not be childcare during the lunch.
