Mid-Week Musings from Lead Pastor Todd Malone
Jesus is building His church on the foundation of the gospel. Pastors are constantly tempted to create the impression that they are indispensable to their church. I suspect many people besides pastors struggle with that temptation. It is, of course, idolatry. It is putting self in a place that only Jesus can occupy. There is also the opposite temptation for people: to feel that they are unnecessary to the church Jesus is building. But part of the gospel foundation of the church is that every believer has a role to play in their church. There is no useless, unnecessary person.
How to pray for FBC
As I shared on Sunday, FBC’s leadership needs to examine how to respond to the giving trend that we are seeing. The Lord gives us the resources to do what He calls us to do. Pray for wisdom to know what that is.
Pray for VBS. The final preparations are this week. We currently have 250 children signed up. Pray for all the pieces to come together. Pray for God to work in the lives of the children.
How to pray for our Community and World
Monday was the fourth anniversary of a racist killing nine people attending a Bible Study at Emmanuel AME church in Charleston, SC. The church responded with extraordinary grace. They were a model of God’s mercy and forgiveness. Let’s pray that their example would penetrate the hearts of our community and nation. Pray that we will be powerful examples of God’s love – so much so that the prejudices that divide us will dissolve.
