I occasionally think about how amazing it would have been to be around during Jesus’ earthly ministry. How encouraging and strengthening it would be to watch Jesus in action, to listen to Him teach, to see the lives He changed. No question it would be all of those things. But Jesus promised in Sunday’s passage that we are better off with the Holy Spirit than with Him. I find that hard to believe because I undervalue the Spirit’s ministry in my life. Slade’s message challenged me to be more mindful of and grateful for the Holy Spirit’s work.
How to pray for FBC
World Outreach Weekend is happening this week. Three ways to pray: (1) for this to be a refreshing, encouraging time for the missionaries, (2) for the missionaries to add new prayer and financial supporters, (3) that our church will gain a bigger vision of God’s work around the world (and be motivated to participate in new ways).
How to pray for our Community
Spoiler Alert: We are going to end WOW on Sunday with a challenge to get involved in outreach in Longview and overseas. We will have multiple opportunities in Longview. Pray that these efforts will show God’s love in a way that points people to Jesus.
How to Pray for Our World
It’s exciting to have so many missionaries with us this weekend. The downside for them is that they must leave their work behind. I think it is appropriate to pray for the places they are leaving. We can’t list the places, but it’s okay to ask the Lord to help the ministries flourish while the missionaries are with us. He knows where they minister.
