A Season of Waiting …

Todd Malone

We are going to prepare our hearts for Christmas by talking about waiting during the Advent season. Waiting is a common theme in the Bible. Almost every Biblical hero went through a season of waiting, which the Lord used to shape them. Waiting is an important part of following the Lord.

Advent is a season of waiting. It looks backward, reminding us that God’s people waited centuries for the Messiah. It looks forward, reminding us that God’s people still wait for the Messiah’s return. It looks at the present and reminds us that God continues to use waiting to shape our lives.

Waiting is not necessarily passive. It does not have to be like sitting at an airport in a long layover. Anyone who has waited for a baby to arrive knows that waiting can be active, a time of preparation. Waiting can be so full of activity that we wonder if we will have enough time. The waiting that the Lord takes us through is never passive. It is a time in which He calls us to prepare for what He has next, even when we don’t know what it is.

We will use our eager anticipation of Christmas to remind us of the hope we still anticipate. We will remember that God is at work in the seasons when we feel “on hold.” Advent is about waiting, and the incredible things God does as we wait on Him.

  • December 9th we will end our club year with “Decorate a Leader” night and a clubber Christmas Party.
  • Awana will resume club after the holidays on January 9th.

From all our Awana family we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Light Up Christmas at South Ward!

We will bless South Ward Elementary with Christmas gifts. Trees in the Worship Center foyer will be filled with gift tags. As folks donate $5 towards the purchase of a game for a student a tag will be removed. Once all the tags have been purchased from a tree, we will light it! Final donations can be made on December 16th.

Thank You!
