AUGUST PASTOR’S ARTICLE

Todd Malone

We are in the middle of 40 Days of going before the Lord and seeking His direction and provision. It has been a wonderful experience so far. Each week we lift up an area of FBC’s ministry to the Lord. We prayed for ministries impacting children and youth in the first week. In week two, we prayed for church leadership: the Elders, Deacons, and Staff. The third week focused on ministries that build fellowship and teach us God’s Word and how to apply it. Weeks four and five lift up our worship and our outreach. We will wrap up the final week with the life-transforming impact of the church.

The bottom line: we are praying that the Holy Spirit will work through every ministry, every support function, and every FBCer to make Jesus known. Our goal as a church is for people who do not know Jesus will come to know Him and for people who know Jesus to know Him better. Every person falls in one of those two categories. We are praying for wisdom for how to accomplish that goal. We are praying for provision of resources to accomplish that goal. And we pray in confidence. God will provide what we need. God will do this work. More accurately, God is doing this work – we are asking how He wants us to join Him in it.

Don’t worry if you have not yet participated in the 40 Days of Prayer. There is still time. You can pick up a Prayer Guide on Sunday mornings. The greeters who hand out bulletins have them. You can also find the Prayer Guides on our Facebook page, our website, and our phone app. I love using the phone app because it sends me daily reminders for how to pray that day.

Pay attention to how God works in your life during the 40 Days. Pay attention to how He is working in the church. We will give you an opportunity to share what God has done during the Sunday Service on August 25. I can’t wait to hear more stories.

Several people have asked if we can do this every year. I think that is a great idea. Let’s plan on it.

Ministry Spotlight – Waiting for the Great Pumpkin?

Okay, Not Really – But We ARE Waiting for Great Volunteers!

Fall is the time of year when ministries move into HIGH GEAR here at Fellowship. For staff and volunteers, that ramping up begins in August. We are making final plans and figuring out what (and WHO) we need to make those ministries flow (apparently) seamlessly. That requires a lot of behind the scenes  planning and scheduling on the part of our staff.

It also requires the efforts of a LOT of volunteers who carry out the great plans we have made. There are opportunities of all kinds – Adult class teachers, Kids’ Ministry teachers and helpers, Awana leaders and listeners, Nursery workers, MOPS child care workers and Steering Team members, Youth ministry, Event Planning help, Greeters and Guest Services, Worship, Small Group leaders,  Women’s ministry, Audio Visual, Yard Care — you name it, we probably have a place that your gift of service would be well used and appreciated.

God has called us to lives of serving others. Where is He calling you to serve?  Contact Kathy Silvertooth at kathys@longviewfbc.com or check out our serving opportunities HERE, and sign up for the ones you would like to investigate and be a part of! We’re waiting for YOU!
